The Adaptive Sports at Sun Peaks (ASSP) committee has been busy getting ready for the 2013-14 winter season.
Several projects were undertaken in the off-season, including the launch of a new website and the creation of a new logo. Recruitment drives for volunteers have been ongoing, and preparations have begun on the new Adaptive Sports Centre (ASC) at Sun Peaks.
Open December 1 to March 31, and located next to Bolacco’s Café in the Coast Sundance Lodge, the new ASC will serve as a hub for ASSP.
The new space will provide ASSP with a location for students to register, gather and meet their instructors in a relaxed and organized setting. As it’s wheelchair accessible, it will also be used for the fitting and adjustment of sit skis and other adaptive equipment available for students.
The space provided by Sun Peaks Resort Corporation behind Fall Line in the Delta Sun Peaks Resort will continue to be used for equipment storage.
The new ASC will also serve to help promote awareness about the ASSP’s programs. A plan is in place to have a monitor in the window displaying highlights and successes of the students and volunteer instructors in action.
