Adaptive Sports at Sun Peaks (ASSP) has received a financial boost from Sun Peaks Resort LLP (SPR) thanks to guests who forgot their gear on the mountain.
In 2018 SPR hosted a silent auction for ASSP, selling equipment that had been left behind for two years or more. They also donated tips made by the volunteer Sun Hosts.
AnnMarie Dill, guest services and ticketing manager, said they’re happy to show their support of ASSP.
“They’re an important part of the community and we’re happy to pass the proceeds on,” Dill said.
ASSP program manager Jenny Hawes said the funds will be used for operational costs and volunteer training.
“We are appreciative,” she said. “It’s just another way Sun Peaks Resort has continued to support organizations in the community.”
Hawes added ASSP is accepting donations of used equipment they can sell at Consignor Sports in Kamloops as another fundraising effort.
They are also beginning to reach out for volunteers for the 2019-20 season.
“Seeing kids and their parents after a lesson is so rewarding,” she said. “Our volunteers say they’ve never got so much reward from volunteering.”
Levels of commitment for volunteers vary from a few lessons to 10 or more lessons with the same student.
