Artful memories bring out memoirs

WritingHave you ever thought about how you’d write your memoir? Are you a blog writer looking for inspiration? Do you have a significant moment in your life that you’d like to put to the page to share with friends and family?

If so, you may be interested in attending a life writing workshop organized by Art Zone Sun Peaks.

Using art as a springboard to draw out memories, local writer Ruth Wiebe and artist Liz Derksen will offer their guidance on how to craft your stories.

Wiebe said art had the power to help connect memories, thoughts, feelings and events, and could be a useful tool in the writing process.

“A lot of people want to write their memoirs and share the stories of their life. We’ll be guiding participants on how to do that in small pieces by choosing a significant event and writing about it,” Wiebe said.

The Life Writing Workshop will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 13 at the Cahility Lodge from 2 to 4 p.m. The event is $10 for Art Zone members and $12 for non-members. Participants are asked to bring their own writing implements.
