Bottoms holds Open Mic Night on Jan. 17

Are you a closet performer? Or are you someone with talents of Canadian Idol calibre but feel lining up outside for hours to perform just isn’t your thing? Well, here is your long-awaited opportunity.

Bottoms Bar and Grill is holding an Open Mic Night on Sunday, Jan. 17 at 9 p.m. This is the first Open Mic Night at Bottoms this year, an event where anyone can entertain the crowd with a song, a musical performance or a dance.

“We’ve done spontaneous jams just to get locals in and have fun and to see some new materials,” said Brian Beck, who first espoused the idea for the event.

The bar has held the event on and off for the last two years, which included jam nights last summer. Over those years, owner Nathan Cross said he’s seen a variety of performances—from heavy metal to folk to hip hop—from courageous souls that braved the spotlight. Cross himself has played the drums occasionally for this event.

Expect performances by locals JF and Brian Beck.

“JF is pretty fun to watch when he gets going on the djembe (a type of African drums),” said Cross. “Brian Beck is a pretty polished musician.” Sun Peaks locals who frequent Bottoms will know that Beck plays the guitar, mandolin, djembe and also sings.

Beck said there’s an open invitation to everyone. “There’s live entertainment and it could be a lot of fun.”

To participate, simply head over to Bottoms at the Coast Sundance Lodge on Sunday night, write your name on the sign up sheet and prepare to wow the crowd. For more information, call Nathan or Brian at 250-578-0013.
