Christmas comes early for local societies

ApprovedSeven of Sun Peaks’ non-profit groups are a little bit richer after the municipality approved them for community grant funding.

Local arts groups received a total of $800 — the quilting guild receiving $400 to be used toward quilting materials, and the Art Zone $400 for rent.

The Health Association was again awarded $640 to cover their annual property taxes.

The bulk of the $6,000 of grant monies available, however, went to sports groups.

The Sun Peaks Nordic Club received $800 to be put towards teaching aids for the Jackrabbit Program, the Sun Peaks Speed Skiing Club received $760 to be used toward the 2014 FIS Speed Ski World Cup, while the Sun Peaks Racers received $1,500 for the Hub International Nancy Greene Festival.

Adaptive Sports rounds out the grant recipients with $1,500 being allocated to their Awareness Festival and capital purchases.
