Fatal accident results in race cancellation

BC Ambulance Service responded to a fatal snowmobile accident at Sun Peaks Resort, April 20. An air ambulance was dispatched to respond to an accident at the Western Canadian Hillcross Association races taking place at the base of the mountain under the Sundance chairlift.

“Ski patrol was on the scene immediately to provide medical assistance,” said Aidan Kelly, chief marketing officer for Sun Peaks Resort LLP. “An air ambulance was also called to the resort. Unfortunately, the snowmobiler passed away as a result of injuries sustained.”

“Our hearts go out to the family, friends, event organizers, and all those involved. This is a tragic incident and we will do everything we can to assist during this difficult time.”

The remainder of the Western Canada Hillcross races have been canceled this weekend.
