The past two weekends have been filled with success for both the Sun Peaks Freestyle Team and the Sun Peaks Alpine Club. Members of both teams travelled to Whistler, B.C. for competitions where they came away with several podiums and top 10 finishes.
The Freestyle Team competed in the second stop on the Timber Tour Series this past weekend with athletes also competing in the Super Youth Competitions. With seven top-three finishes and 21 top 10 finishes, the weekend was a success for the program.
In the U10 division Ryder McKenzie-White placed first in the slopestyle and big air and ,just missed the podium in moguls with a fourth-place finish.
Throughout the U12 female competition, Emily Hooper and Paige Franklin had top 10 finishes in each event. For Hooper, her best event of the weekend was moguls in which she placed fourth. Franklin earned sixth place in both the moguls and big air competition.
For the U12 males, four of the freestyle team members had multiple top 10 finishes. Morgan Franklin brought home first place in big air and second in slopestyle. In moguls it was David McClymont who scored highest for the team with a fifth-place finish; he was followed by Franklin in seventh, Ethan Hooper in eight and Zachary Fortin in tenth place.
Fortin and McClymont were among the top 10 finishers in the big air competition coming in fourth and seventh respectively. In the slopestyle competition Hooper, McClymont and Fortin earning sixth, seventh and eighth place.
In the Timber Tour division of competition, Luc Dallaire found the podium in both the slopestyle and big air competitions. It was a repeat victory in slopestyle for Dallaire as he won the competition at the first stop of the tour at Panorama Mountain on Jan. 12.
Dallaire placed second in the big air event with teammates McClymont, Hooper and Charlie Roberts following in fifth, sixth and tenth.
Justin Rokosh finished off the tour in the men’s 18-year-old division taking first place in slopestyle and fifth in big air.
The Sun Peaks Racers are celebrating weekend success from their first snowcross event of the season from Jan. 27 to 28 in Whistler. The athletes brought home three first-place finishes and one-third place from the event.
Tighe Kramer took first in male 9-10 with teammate Gavin Johnson following closely in third. The Currie brothers Cameron and Euan both took first place in their categories, Cameron in the skiing male 11 age group and Euan in the age 12-13 division.
In the female division, both Trinity Jensen and Peyton Devlin attended the event with Devlin making it to the semi-finals.
