The changing of the seasons often inspires an inward change in ourselves.
As laid back summer schedules switch back to routines of fall, many modern women, busy with careers and families, struggle to find time for themselves and search for a means of reconnecting and finding balance.
Catering to this need, the Women Only Weekend (WOW) is being launched from September 13 to 15 at Sun Peaks Resort.
“As women we’re just balancing so many issues like our kids, our family, our health, our careers, the list keeps on and on and we really don’t take time for ourselves,” says Laura Kalina, WOW presenter and author of Low GI Meals in Minutes. “We may take an hour a day to go exercise, but to focus on yourself for a whole weekend, how amazing is that.”
Offering something for everyone, WOW was designed with a mix and match approach to events giving women the chance to choose activities and sessions that fit their interests.
“The goal of WOW is to empower and inspire women in whatever format they prefer,” says event organizer, Cathy Earle. “We’re simply providing the options and the venue and encouraging women to select sessions that fit with their lifestyle.”
Fitness activities offered include yoga, boot camp, cross-country biking, SUP yoga, hiking, Bellyfit and Zumba.
Speakeasy sessions balance out the action with relaxed educational conversations on everything from personal power, to healthy eating, to handling your finances.
Kalina and her business partner Cheryl Christian will bring their expertise to the table as they discuss taking a healthy approach to life.
“We’ve worked (our methods), used (them) with our own families, so I think this will be really great to share that practicality,” explains Kalina. “Had I known now what I knew when my kids were (young) it would have been way easier. I think that for people with younger families, this quick prep method in getting your fridge ready and getting the kids involved will really help people sooner rather than later.”
The keynote address will be delivered by Canadian senator and Olympian Nancy Greene who will host a lunch seminar during WOW to share personal stories and discuss the art of balance in a women’s life.
The weekend will also feature wine tastings on Friday and Saturday evenings, with a trade show on Sunday.
