Iron men on the course

IronmenFriday, June 20 saw six golfers participate in the first Ironman Golf Day at Sun Peaks.

Ian Watson, Jeff Cusick, Caleb MacMillan, A Cage, Scott Helton, and Hayden Byrne played 72 holes of golf as a test event for a much larger fundraising tournament planned for 2015. Tee off was at 7 a.m. and the final hole was finished after more than 14 hours.

The teams played four rounds, one from each of the tees: blue, black, white and red. Next year’s event will see modifications to allow for higher handicappers to compete, and organizers will look to close the course if 18 groups commit to a shotgun start.

Two sponsors have been confirmed for the next event, and the funds raised will be donated to the Sun Peaks Education Society, the Sun Peaks Health Centre, and the Adaptive Sports at Sun Peaks.
