It’s ice time for Sun Peaks’ hockey season

SPHL (2)It’s soon time for Sun Peaks hockey fans to dust off the pucks and sharpen the skates — the fifth season of the Sun Peaks Hockey League (SPHL) gets underway Thursday, Dec. 5, weather permitting.

The season will see four on four games of arguably entertaining hockey each Thursday night through February 6, with a two week break over the Christmas season. Games are shinny style, non contact, friendly matches for Sun Peaks Resort Corporation employees and volunteers. Some equipment is available at the skating rink for those in need.

“The SPHL is great because it gives (corp) staff an inexpensive activity to do after work hours,” says organizer Mike Billhiemer. “We’ve structured the league to be friendly to novice and experienced players alike. . . (and) it also exposes international staff to a bit of Canadiana while meeting people from different areas of the resort.”

Registration is $20 and can be completed at Guest Services.
