Back-to-back victories for freestyle athletes and first place in Western Finals

It was a busy weekend for Sun Peaks athletes with the Freestyle Ski Team and Sun Peaks Alpine Club travelling for competition. The Freestyle team had three separate athletes top the podium both Saturday, March 10 and Sunday, March 11 at Huck, Tuck, And Stomp slopestyle competition in Big White, B.C.
Mila Roberts captured first place both days in the eight-year-old female category, with her top score being 42.0 on Sunday.
In the men’s age 10 category Ryder Mackenzie-White placed first both days with twin scores of 61.5.
Luc Dallaire earned the top spot in the men’s age 14 division with a seven-point advantage over Silver Star’s Tate Garrod. Dallaire repeated his victory on Sunday with a score of 74.5.
In the men’s age 14 division Charlie Roberts, Mattias Grunling, and Eli Netherton each improved their standings throughout the weekend.On Saturday, Roberts placed seventh with a score of 56.7, Grunling placed 10th and Eli Netherton finished in 11th. After Sunday’s competition, the trio improved with Roberts finishing fifth, Grunling in sixth and Netherton in ninth with a score of 51.2.
The team had four competitors in the female age 12 division Paige Franklin, Annika Roberts, Julia Leduc and Sadie Grunling.
Franklin improved from fifth on Saturday to fourth on Sunday with her best score of the weekend 60.7. Roberts improved from eighth to seventh on Sunday with a score of 45.7. Julia Leduc placed ninth both days with her best score of the weekend on Sunday at 39.7. Sadie Grunling was able to move from 10th place on Saturday to an eighth-place finish on Sunday with a score of 45.0.
Competing in the men’s age 12 category Olson Advocaat and Morgan Franklin podiumed on both days. Advocaat took second place on Saturday and first on Sunday while Franklin finished third and second respectively.
At the Sporting Life U16 Western Championships in Jasper, Alta. Sun Peaks Racer Rio Shatzko earned first place in the dual combined competition.
