Pick a book for Family Literacy Day

FamLitDayFamily Literacy Day, January 27, 2014, is a day to celebrate learning and reading together. ABC Life Literacy Canada encourages everyone to allocate at least 15 minutes a day toward family learning.

This year the Kamloops community will celebrate Family Literacy Day on Saturday, Jan. 25 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Henry Grube Centre with storytellers, singers, activities and a free “new to me” book for each child to take away.

The 4th annual Heap the Honda Children’s Book Drive event will also be underway from January 4 to 27. Books collected will go to Literacy Day events, social service agencies and to the Bright Red Bookshelf Project, which supplies books to the red public bookshelves throughout Kamloops. To date more than 40,000 have been collected by Kamloops Honda towards this initiative. Drop off your gently used books to Starbucks, Interior Savings, library and YMCA/YWCA locations, as well as at Kamloops Honda.
