Pros teach the next generation

Bike CampSome of B.C.’s top downhill riders were on hand to conduct a five day freeride camp in Sun Peaks, July 14 to 18.

Kamloops’ mountain biking greats Dylan Sherrard, Shawn Melnechuk and Ace Hayden were joined by freeriding pioneer and Mountain Bike Hall of Famer Brett Tippie as instructors for the camp.

A crop of 18 young riders, aged 10 to 17, were given instructions and advice on the skills required to tackle obstacles in Sun Peaks’ bike park, including jumps, berms, steeps and single track.

Vincent Lafontaine, sports director with Sun Peaks Resort Corporation, said the experience was “second-to-none” for the young riders.

“The kids really improved their skills and confidence throughout the week. We saw their progress every day and on top of that, they got to ride with some of the best pro riders out there. It’s the best camp in B.C.,” said Lafontaine.
