Have you always wanted to quit smoking but couldn’t quite get there? Maybe a little cash incentive will help.
The Ministry of Healthy Living and Sport is launching its third annual QuitNow and Win contest. This contest is an opportunity not only to motivate yourself to quit smoking; participants are also automatically entered in a draw to win the $5,000 grand prize.
The contest is aimed at any of the 70 per cent of smokers in the province who, according to a B.C. Stats Tobacco Attitudes and Behaviours Survey Report, want to quit.
“The QuitNow and Win contest provides British Columbian smokers with an engaging way to have a healthier life by making the commitment to quit smoking,” said Ida Chong, Minister of Healthy Living and Sport. “Along with the cash prizes that many participants can win by entering the contest, the grand prize for all quitters is a healthier, smoke-free lifestyle.”
Support is available through a confidential helpline available in 130 languages or in an online community that offers professional and peer coach support. For social media users, QuitNow support is also available on Facebook and Twitter. Individuals can also sign up for e-mail quitting tips or browse through online tools and resources at www.quitnow.ca.
Besides the $5,000 grand prize, other prizes include five $1,000 regional prizes and 14 weekly draw prizes ranging from $500 to $1,000.
