Update June 3, 2020 – An updated story will be published this week with information from the original poster. The complainant reached out to the SPCA and Conservation originally (not the RCMP) and SPIN will follow up with with those organizations, as well as the original poster, to continue reporting on this story. Also, graphic images in the Facebook comments section of this story were removed.

On May 22 Kamloops RCMP responded to a complaint of threats being made in a local Facebook group.

The threats were commented on a post which alleged a man on Sunburst Dr. was shooting a BB gun at pet cats. The post included a photo of the man and claimed he had shot and injured multiple cats.

Kamloops RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Jodi Shelkie told SPIN the man accused in the post contacted them to report the threats.

Many commenters threatened violence against the alleged shooter.

Shelkie said the RCMP investigation found the man had never shot a BB gun or any other weapon at a cat and the dispute resulted from the man requesting the cats were kept off his property as they were causing damage.

She confirmed there is no police file regarding the original alleged animal abuse “because it never happened.”

The individual original poster did not respond to requests for an interview. The post was removed by group administrators.
