With hopes of bringing diversity to the Sun Peaks community while catering to an already satisfied market, Sun Peaks Resort Corporation (SPRC) will be celebrating the Chinese New Year on Friday, January 31 and Saturday, February 1.
With consultation from local and regional Chinese communities, SPRC has scheduled a weekend filled with traditional Chinese activities, such as Tai Chi, lion dancing and tissue painting.
“Since the main purpose of this festive event is to celebrate and create awareness of the Chinese culture for all resort guests, our focus was to develop a family-friendly program that would appeal to a wide audience,” explains Layla Jaffer, acting sales and marketing director for SPRC.
For the SPRC team, the goal of this event is to not only bring new guests to the resort but to encourage local residents and returning guests to open their minds to cultural diversity.
“Every time you learn something new about people you’re less familiar with, it facilitates understanding and acceptance and that ultimately fosters a healthy community,” says Jaffer.
Along with the street performances and lantern display a “Year of the Horse” firework show will concluded the event and round out the cultural experience.
