SUP for Pups success

Sup for PupsA strong turnout at this year’s SUP for Pups event raised more than $500 for animals in need.

The fundraiser saw locals, visitors and their canine companions take to the waters of Heffley Lake on September 11 for an evening of stand-up paddleboarding with the team from Paddle Surfit. Donors were able to take part in a free paddleboard lesson and enter into the draw for several prizes, including an overnight stay at Sun Peaks Grand Hotel and Conference Centre.

Brenda Shandro, event organizer, said she was pleased with the attendance at the event, including six dogs, who were more than happy to dip their paws and give stand up paddleboarding a try.

“Donations were received from all who attended, even those who brought their own boards. One neighbour on the lake came over by kayak just to donate,” Shandro said.

“Our mission is to raise money and community awareness for local animal rescues and shelters. 100 per cent of the donations will help to pay for medical attention and food for these beautiful creatures to get a second chance at a life they deserve.”

The funds raised will be put towards SAINTS (Senior Animals In Need Today Society) Animal Rescue and Marvelous Mutts Rescue.
