Sunburst Subdivision water leak found

The water leak affecting Sun Peaks Subdivision has been found, according to an official notice from Sun Peaks Utilities (SPUCL). The notice was issued on Wednesday, May 18.

The water leak is located eight feet inside a sleeve under Sun Peaks Road. In order to dig out the sleeve and replace the damaged pipe, a section of Sun Peaks Road has been dug up. Water service will remain turned off until the end of the day to accommodate the repair. Work is scheduled to be completed by 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 19. SPUCL said updates will be sent out if there are any changes to water service delivery or if repairs will be delayed.

The repair also means a detour for motorists travelling along Sun Peaks Road between the west end of Burfield Drive and the east end of Fairways Drive. Local traffic for Sunburst and Sun Mountain Villas from the west end and The Peaks and Alpine Greens from the east end may pass through. Drivers will need to follow instructions from flagging crews on site. Road closure signs and flashing lights will remain at night to alert motorists of the road closure.

Sunburst Subdivision residents are advised to store enough water to meet their needs for the duration of the repairs. Residents can bring their own water containers to be filled at a temporary water source in the Village Day Lodge. This will be available until 8:30 p.m. In case of an emergency, SPUCL staff can provide a limited emergency supply of bottled water for Sunburst residents. Call 250-319-0638 in case of emergency.

Bottled water can be purchased at the Bluebird Market located in the Delta Residences (11 a.m. to 6 p.m.) or at Café Soleil (6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.) in the Village Day Lodge.

Once the repairs are completed, Sun Peaks Utilities will be flushing the water main to clear any naturally occurring mineral deposits. This process may cause some initial cloudiness in the water. To resolve this issue, cold tap water must be run until clear. The water is considered safe to drink.

If you have any questions or require additional information, please call the office at 250-578-5490 Monday to Friday or in an emergency, the on-call technician can be reached at 250-319-0629. Updates will be available on Sun Peaks Utilities website: www.sunpeaksutilities.com
