Mother nature, the economy and several other factors have put a damper on Sun Peaks Resort Corporation (SPRC) plans to start ski run expansion on the west end of
Mt. Morrisey this summer.
SPRC Marketing Director Anne Haight cited several factors beyond their control that lead to the delays.
“The circumstances include several conditions: logging permits taking longer for approval, the steep West Morrisey terrain requires specialized equipment which we currently do not have access to; the regional log market has deteriorated significantly in the last two months and is very poor right now, and lastly, fire season is now upon us which also likely introduces further operating restrictions,” said Haight.
“Our window of opportunity is being affected by all these factors and has already been reduced for this year. We plan to commence our program as soon conditions allow, however, the earliest opportunity to start logging now appears to be in late August.”
