A flurry of fun and festivities for fall

Blackdog BlueBlackdog BlueWith lift operations now over for the summer season, many locals and visitors may be stuck for ideas to keep occupied over the fall season. Christopher Nicolson, president of Tourism Sun Peaks was quick to highlight some alternative activities to keep people occupied this fall.

Walk on water: While it might be a bit cold for a swim, Nicolson said paddle-boarding at Heffley Lake or canoe and kayak rentals at McGillivray Lake were a great way to spend a few hours outdoors. “This time of the year, McGillivray Lake is just gorgeous,” Nicolson says.

Overland exploration: Alpine Explorers will continue to run Segway tours until Thanksgiving weekend, or go for a mountain bike ride on one of the cross-country trails.

Take a hike: Nicolson recommends Mount Embleton, opposite Heffley Lake. “It’s a spectacular walk.”

Get rocked: Rocktoberfest is coming to the Sun Peaks Grand Hotel and Conference Centre on Saturday, October 18, headlined by the high energy five-piece Blackdog Blue. Dinner and live entertainment kicks off at 6.30pm.

Grab a bargain: The annual Turkey Sale takes place on Thanksgiving weekend, October 11 to 13, offering big discounts on winter gear from local retailers. “A lot of people come up for the weekend and there’s always a lot of excitement and interest ahead of the winter season. It’s a great chance to get some early ski-season shopping done.”

For more ideas and activities, Nicolson recommends getting in touch with the Sun Peaks Adventure Centre on 250-578-5542 or visiting the Sun Peaks Resort web page.
