Approximately 30 homes without gas after service line hit

Homes on Fairways Dr. and Eagle Crt. are without gas this afternoon.

Sun Peaks Fire Rescue and Sun Peaks Utilities’ crews responded to Fairways Dr. just before 2 p.m. this afternoon after a contractor working to install a sign with a post holer hit a service line.

Pat Miller, director of public works services for Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality, said the contractor followed the appropriate steps in calling before they dug and calling for assistance immediately.

Shut offs had been preemptively installed in case of emergency and were used, halting natrual gas to around 30 homes and the Pinnacle Lodge (from 2420 Fairways Dr. up to and including Eagle Crt.)

FortisBC is expected on site around 3:30 p.m. to begin repairs which are expected to take around one and a half hours to complete. After repairs, crews will begin contacting homeowners to re light homes. Miller said that process could “take a while.”

“We want to thank everybody for their quick response,” she said.

“And thank everybody for dialing before they dig. The contractor did call and did all of the right procedures.”

Anyone with questions can contact the municipality at 250 578 2020 or reach the utility on call line at 250 319 0629.
