Austrians return to Sun Peaks to prepare for 2010 Olympic events

Sun Peaks, BC – The Austrians have returned to Sun Peaks Resort. The athletes on both the alpine and snowboard teams for the Austrians are training at the B.C. Interior resort in final preparation before the 2010 Winter Olympics begin next week in Whistler and Vancouver.

The Austrians have had a long-term relationship with Sun Peaks Resort and spent a week at the resort in November prior to the start of the World Cup circuit.

Prior to their arrival, Sun Peaks Mountain Operations worked diligently on the OSV run in the Nancy Greene International Race Centre to ensure the athletes have the best possible training before their Olympic events. Special preparations include water injection to harden the race surface.

“It’s fantastic to have this little piece of Olympic action right here at Sun Peaks Resort,” said Anne Haight, sales and marketing director with Sun Peaks Resort Corporation. “We truly enjoy having them back and watching the team prepare for the race of their careers.”

In addition to the Austria National Ski Team, Sun Peaks Resort will also provide training space for the Austrian National Snowboard Team. The Austrians are planning to transport team members by helicopter to the Whistler race events, landing north of the Olympic village.
