B.C. duo paddle across the Molokai Channel in just over five hours

Bodie Shandro braves the waves at the Molokai 2 Oahu paddleboard race.

Sun Peaks local Bodie Shandro and Squamish resident Norm Hann finished 55th out of 163 entries at the Molokai to Oahu Paddleboard Race.

They ranked 11th out of 14 in the two-man standup paddleboarding division.

The pair crossed the treacherous Molokai Channel in just five hours and 49 minutes.

They were also the first Canadian team to join the race.

“(We were) very pleased with our result as the first Canadians to challenge the Channel!” said Shandro who competed with a torn muscle. “We were very fortunate to have finished ahead of many highly respected teams from all over the world including Hawaiians that are able to train in these conditions.”
