Beautifying the village core

DSC_0251Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality will be investing in the village core this summer, with several smaller projects planned.

Rob Bremner, chief administrative officer for the municipality, said funding raised through business licensing fees would be used to purchase hanging baskets, following a recommendation from the Sun Peaks Business Advisory Council.

Overhauling the rock garden outside the Tourism Sun Peaks offices at the east-end of the village was also being considered.

“We’re currently looking at a price to take all those rocks out of there and putting some grass in there with a few picnic tables and garbage containers to give people a nicer area for sitting.”

Electrical work around the village would also be taking place, following the replacement of the lighting around the village last year.

“There were some electrical issues we found that we’re going to get on top of and fix.”

The municipality will also employ student workers to pick up garbage and keep the village core and Valley Trail tidy.

Other projects will include crack maintenance on the tennis courts and some roadworks around the village.
