Busy period for thieves in Sun Peaks

bc-100127-rcmp-signThe Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) were called to Sun Peaks on August 6 in response to an attempted break-in and a theft from a vehicle sometime during the night of August 5.

Corporal Mike Mucha, RCMP Kamloops rural detachment, said a vehicle on Bella Vista Drive was broken into. The car window was broken and cash, sunglasses and cigarettes were taken from the vehicle.

An attempted break-in on Douglas Court was also reported to police. Cpl Mucha said the frame of a window had been pried and a window had been broken, however no entry was gained. Cpl Mucha reminded the Sun Peaks community to remove all valuables from their vehicles and to remain vigilant, particularly during times of high visitation to the hill.

“(Theft) isn’t common in Sun Peaks, but it does happen, particularly with concerts or events going on, some people who aren’t so good might be making their way around,” he said. “You have to take things out of your vehicle and make sure it looks like there’s nothing of value in your vehicle.”

According to Facebook users, a vehicle on Fairways Drive and a vehicle in Whitecroft were also broken into on the same night, however these incidents were not confirmed by the RCMP.

Corporal Cheryl Bush, RCMP Kamloops, also confirmed a car was stolen from a residence on Sun Peaks Road sometime between Thursday, August 21 and Friday, August 22. The car was reported as a gold 1999 Nissan Pathfinder.
