Sun Peaks Resort Corporation will be offering off-piste ski camps this season.
Beyond the Groomers is a three-day camp, running Mondays to Wednesdays each week, and giving intermediate to experienced skiers an opportunity to explore some of Sun Peaks’ new terrain, gladed runs and powder skiing areas.
The second camp being offered, a two-day All Mountain Skills camp, will run Thursdays and Fridays. This camp will explore off-piste terrain, and also focuses on promoting safety and awareness of mountain hazards and developing good decision-making skills at an introductory level.
Off-piste camp coordinator Bodie Shandro said the camp will raise an awareness of hazards including frostbite, tree wells and an introduction to companion rescue.
While some consider off-piste as backcountry of out-of-bounds skiing, Shandro said both camps will take place entirely in-bounds.
“These are invaluable camps for anyone that ventures off the groomed runs,” Shandro said. “It’s a great opportunity for locals and guests to get a firsthand look at the new terrain while improving their skills.”
