UPDATE
As of 3:38 p.m., there has been no change in size or operations in response to the 4.89-hectare, out-of-control wildfire in Lyons Creek, approximately six kilometres northeast of the Heffley Creek area.
BC Wildfire crews are responding to a 4.89-hectare, out-of-control wildfire in Lyons Creek, approximately six kilometres northeast of the Heffley Creek area.
No structures are threatened at this time. The wildfire is approximately 23 kilometres west of Sun Peaks.
“The fire was detected on [Wednesday] July 30,” a BC Wildfire representative told SPIN. “[It was] suspected to be lightning-caused. We did have a crew on overnight actioning that fire with the support of night vision helicopters.”
Today, four initial attack crews with 21 firefighters returned to the site to continue the work of reducing the wildfire. The crews have established access to the wildfire and a hoselay, BC Wildfire added, and are working on setting up a bladder site.
“The weather is not exactly in our favour today,” the representative said. “We have low relative humidity and significant heat, with a little bit of instability potentially bringing some wind in the afternoon.”
Conditions are expected to improve going into the weekend, she said, adding humidity is forecast to rise and more cloud cover is anticipated.
“Today could see increased fire behaviour and crews are constantly evaluating conditions on-site, and establishing objectives based on that.”
No evacuation alerts or orders have been recommended at this time.
The next update will be this evening around 3 p.m. We will update this article at that time.
