Barb Kupferschmidt Linder and Maria Cannon, present and past presidents, respectively, of the Sun Peaks Education Society were awarded the honour in a surprise announcement at the Sun Peaks Annual Firefighters’ Charity Gala on November 17.
“What a very unexpected honour to receive this award,” Kupferschmidt Linder says of the medal. “My appreciation goes out to all the people who’ve believed in our vision of the school, supported us and worked so hard behind the scenes to make it a success. A motto of mine has always been, ‘Where there’s a will, there’s a way,’ and this community makes it possible to get the job done.”
Cannon echoes these sentiments.
“It’s a great honour, I’m really proud to have been able to help make a difference in such a great community,” she says.
The medals were conferred by Senator Nancy Greene Raine, along with Mayor Al Raine and MP Cathy McLeod.
