A little generosity goes a long way as the Sun Peaks Education Society discovered recently.
With support from the community as well as individual and corporate sponsorship, the society has now surpassed its fundraising goal. Sun Peaks Education Society chair Maria Cannon said the current total now sits at $83,000—$8,000 more than the initial $75,000 goal.
Proceeds of over $1,000 came from several events that took place over the holiday season, which included the Christmas Market, the Alpine Harmony Concert, the Art Walk and the coat check at the Delta Sun Peaks Resort’s staff party.
The funds will come in handy as the Discovery Centre plans to expand to 40 students in the next school year. Early registration is encouraged and will start next month.
The Discovery Centre has recently started offering a Friday ski program in conjunction with the Sports School which is part of the centre’s Physical Education activities. The program runs for 11 weeks. Ice skating and snowshoeing will be added sometime this winter.
