Local families will have the chance to prove which nation really rules the slopes, as competitors from around the world get set to compete in the ninth annual Sun Peaks Family Cup celebrations from January 4 to 11.
In the past, the event has attracted families from Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom and Brazil.
The Family Cup will kick off on Sunday, Jan. 4 with a welcome reception featuring Nancy Greene.
A range of events will be held throughout the week, including a dual race, a family fun night at the skating rink, a kids craft night, a mountain marathon, a children’s obstacle course and more.
The Family Cup Race will be held on Saturday, Jan. 10, followed by an awards ceremony at Bento’s Day lodge.
Families looking for some cross-country competition should check out the Kookaburra Loppet on Sunday, Jan. 11, which will feature courses catering to all levels of cross-country skiers.
Many of the events on the program are free.
Colin Brost, director of market development for Tourism Sun Peaks, described the event as “a week of friendly competition and challenges.”
“It’s a great way to improve your skills, and an easy way to meet like-minded people from all over the world,” Brost said.
