Campfires still allowed in Sun Peaks

Category two and three fires will be banned in the Kamloops Fire Centre, which includes Sun Peaks, as of noon on July 29.
A category two fire is defined as one or two burn piles no larger than two metres high and three metres wide, category three fires are larger than two metres high and three metres wide. The prohibition also applies to fireworks, sky lanterns and burn barrels.
Campfires which are half-metre high by half-metre wide or smaller are still allowed. The ban also doesn’t apply to gas, propane or briquette powered cooking stoves.
In Sun Peaks those wishing to have a campfire must request a permit from Sun Peaks Fire Rescue (SPFR). Pits must be made of non combustible materials, be at least five metres away from structures and must be inspected by SPFR before a permit will be granted. Campfires in the municipality must be extinguished by 11 p.m. Other rules for burning in the municipality can be found here.
To request a permit or for more information call SPFR at 250 578 8985.
