Grant sought for public arena

Sun Peaks Municipal Council has applied to the Province for a $650,000 recreational facilities grant to build a multi-purpose facility in Sun Peaks. The project, which includes a covered arena, ice plant and other facilities, is split into three phases which will be implemented based on the amount of funding received.

“We’ve actually submitted for Phase I and II at the same time,” says Byron Johnson, chief administrative officer for Sun Peaks Municipality. “Phase II is the ice plant, so if the government gives us $650,000 we’ll do both phases, however, if they only give out $400,000 we’ll probably only be able to do Phase I.”
