Upon the anniversary of the Bard’s birthday, the Kamloops Highland Games Society will be hosting the 125th Robbie Burns Night Dinner on January 28, 2012 at the Kamloops Convention Centre. Doors open at 5 p.m., dinner’s at 6 p.m.

This festive Celtic evening will include music from the award winning Kamloops Pipe Band and, later in the evening, a DJ and Geoff Morris will entertain the crowd with new and old dance music. Also on the program are traditional and contemporary highland dancing, poetry recitals and a time honoured Robbie Burns supper.

“There will of course be the traditional things that you would expect at a Robbie Burns night, but we’ve added a little heat to it,” says event organizer Heather Hamilton. “We have contemporary Highland dancing, the girls are actually doing a bit of a black swan number, and we will have Robbie Burns himself in attendance!”

The event saw 310 Robbie Burns loyalists through the door last year, and organizers are hoping for 400 this year.

“All the profit will be applied to the Highland Games that we have here in town every summer, and also for bursaries and grants for the pipers and dancers to continue on with their training,” explains Hamilton.

Tickets include the three course meal and entertainment: $45 for adults, $30 for youth and $15 for children. They’re available at the Kamloops Florist, Overland Press and Movements Dancewear.
