Health centre and schools address COVID-19

As COVID-19 spreads in B.C. the Sun Peaks Community Health Centre is asking residents to monitor how they feel and call for assistance and information if needed.

Information published by the health centre asked residents who have a fever, cough, shortness of breath and who have travelled to any affected area in the 14 days before the onset of their symptoms or who have been in close contact with a suspected case of COVID-19 not to leave their accommodation.

They are also asking anyone who matches that criteria to call 811 to discuss their symptoms and travel history and to call the Sun Peaks Health Centre instead of coming in. A health care provider will be available to speak with callers as soon as possible.

Meanwhile it’s business as usual for students at the Sun Peaks Secondary Academy (SPSA). A statement from Jenny Hawes, Sun Peaks Education Society president, said the school will be deep cleaned during spring break.

She emphasized the B.C. government has announced anyone who travels outside of Canada will be required to stay home from work or school for 14 days when they return to the province.

School District 73, which is in charge of kindergarten through grade seven students in Sun Peaks, stated they are in close contact with the Ministry of Health and other provincial bodies regarding the outbreak.
