Heffley Creek Landfill construction update

 | August 14, 2012

If you drive the Heffley-Louis Creek Road, the road from Heffley Creek to Sun Peaks, it’s hard not to miss the construction going on at the Heffley Creek Landfill. Crews are working on the new Eco-Depot/Landfill entrance to make it safer than the current one.

Don May, director of environmental services for the TNRD expects the work to be completed by the end of August.

“We’ve done a lot of the base course work already and now it’s just drainage and paving,” said May. “Once we have the new road open we’ll decommission the old road that, as you know, is a real safety hazard on that blind corner.”

Once the new entrance road is complete the TNRD plans to construct a full service Eco-Depot on the south-east corner of the landfill site.

“It’ll be a front end Eco-Depot meaning people can do all their recycling and such without having to enter the actual landfill,” said May.
