Help tidy up with the Trash Bash

TDSC_0002 (2)he Sun Peaks community will come together to clean the village and surrounds as part of the 18th annual Trash Bash, set to take place on the afternoon of Thursday, May 21.
Event coordinator Meghan Kolodka said community members were encouraged to volunteer their support for the initiative.
“The Trash Bash is a community-driven event organized for the purpose of having one more mass resort cleanup now the snow has melted,” Kolodka said.
“Unfortunately, some people still think it’s OK to litter and won’t think twice about tossing their garbage out the car window or on the side of the Valley Trail. Luckily, the Sun Peaks community has always been great about doing their part to keep our home beautiful.”
Volunteers will meet at Bento’s Day Lodge at 4:30 p.m. where they’ll be supplied with gloves and a bag and assigned a route for the afternoon. A volunteer potluck barbecue will be held at Bento’s afterwards, beginning around 6:30 p.m. Volunteers are asked to bring a plate to share for the barbecue.
Kolodka said the Trash Bash was a whole community event, with all of Sun Peaks’ key stakeholders contributing support.
“Tourism Sun Peaks is helping to coordinate the event; Sun Peaks Fire and Rescue is a huge help, they provide the hot dogs and hamburgers and organize the barbecue. They also coordinate the maps — they’ve got some bigger maps of the different areas of the village,” Kolodka said.
“The Municipality donates beverages and Sun Peaks Resort provides Bento’s as a base and a place for the potluck. It’s a whole collaboration between everybody.”
