A 24 kilometre Nordic ski race might seem intimidating, but when it begins at the top of a six kilometre run with a 400 metre vertical drop, the “wee” factor trumps the distance.
This is the second year for the revived Holy Cow Nordic Loppet at Sun Peaks, and Phil Youwe, the resort’s Nordic co-ordinator, is hoping for a great turnout.
“It’s a race for everybody to just go out and do it,” says Youwe. “We had 65 for the Sun Peaks Kookaburra Cup and I’m hoping that we’ll be pushing the 80s (of competitors) in this event.”
A 12 km course will be on the roster as well as the 24 km loop, both starting at the top of the Morrisey Express Chair, descending Holy Cow run, linking a variety of trails and ending at P5 parking lot.
Separate timing will be available for skate and classic skiers.
