In ‘rare’ on-mountain accident, Sun Peaks Resort LLP says one guest has died

After colliding with a tree, an adult male recreating at Sun Peaks Resort March 21 died.

An accident at Sun Peaks Resort on March 21 resulted in the death of one man according to a statement by Sun Peaks Resort LLP (SPR).

In the first statement issued, SPR shared ski patrol responded to the injured person, an adult male, on the mountain. 

“Out of privacy and respect, we will not be releasing any further information,” SPR wrote in the statement. “Sun Peaks Resort is cooperating with the ongoing RCMP investigation and the case is with the Coroners office.” 

SPR also shared their condolences.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of life of our guest and our thoughts are with their family and friends.”

In an updated statement issued by SPR on March 22, it was clarified that the man sustained injuries after colliding with a tree on a beginner trail on Mt. Morrisey. 

“While enjoying the mountain environment is not without risk, events of this nature are rare, and we strive to provide a safe environment for everyone,” SPR wrote in their updated statement. “At this time, our focus is supporting those in need, including our employees who attended to the injured guest and have been involved with this situation.”
