Increased police presence for Dew Tour

rcmp_car_door_smallRCMP increased their presence in Sun Peaks over the weekend of the Dew Tour AM Series, March 27 to 29, with an additional six police officers and five auxiliary officers in the community for the weekend.

Senior Sergeant Doug Aird said despite the increase in numbers over the weekend, the event was not overly busy for police, who investigated a dozen complaints.

The night of Saturday, March 28, was the busiest. At 9:30 p.m. police were contacted by security. A man attending the concert had been ejected by security three times for unsafe behaviour and intoxication, causing safety concerns for other spectators. The man had then attempted to assault the security workers and was arrested by police and transported to a cell in Kamloops to sober up. No charges were laid.

At 10:22 p.m. on the same night, emergency services advised that they had an unidentified male who had been assaulted near P4. When police arrived, the male had already left the scene as he did not want medical attention.

Two individuals were arrested for being intoxicated in a public place, two small drug seizures were made, three tickets were issued for open liquor in public, and three check stops for impaired drivers were set up with several hundred vehicles checked.
