Community groups take part in regional initiative against invasive plants

The Sun Peaks Community Garden and Sun Peaks Rotary Club are encouraging residents to take part in a weed pull contest to clean up the community.

The competition, hosted by the Thompson-Nicola Invasive Plant Management Committee, encourages participants to remove invasive species from their communities. Weeds will be weighed and the group with the most will be titled the 2020 Weed Warrior Champions and receive $250 toward their own programs.

Sun Peaks residents are asked to meet at Sun Peaks Stables on July 22 to take part in the event, which will run from 3 to 5 p.m.

Invasive plants in the region include blueweed, orange hawkweed, burdock, knapweed, spurges and more. More information can be found here.
