The idea for Sun Peaks Independent News (SPIN Newsmagazine) was hatched nine long years ago whilst drinking wine with friends late one night. Out came the crayons and sheets of paper and by the end of the night the SPIN concept was born. When my father heard I was opening a small-town newspaper, the businessman side of him sternly told me, “If you knew anything about the newspaper business you probably wouldn’t be doing this,” but my nurturing dad told me, “You can do anything you want, just work hard at it.”
There are many days, usually deadline days, that I feel I should’ve listened to the businessman and there are other days I’m really glad I listened to my dad.
Our goal at SPIN has always been simple: to allow all the businesses in our community a place to advertise the multitude of services they provide to the guests, residents and visitors of this great resort town, and to allow all three of the latter a place to read about their community, what goes on in it or to have a place their voices can be heard loud and clear.
While we try to stick to this goal as best we can, it’s become obvious to me recently that we simply cannot please all the people, all the time, no matter how hard we try, but try nonetheless we will.
Please let us know what you want to see or read in SPIN because without your input we are just putting words and pretty pictures on paper. SPIN is all about this great community and the people in it, but we can only be what you want us to be if you let us know.
Communication is king.
