Kix for Chix calendar proceeds benefit Sun Peaks adaptive skier

 | December 10, 2012

The proceeds of the 2013 Kix for Chix Calendar will go towards helping local adaptive skier, Pramod Thapa, achieve his Olympic dreams.

Angela Veltri, owner of Kix for Chix, a ladies’ non-competitive kickboxing studio in Kamloops, runs a competition each year where the public is asked who they want the calendar’s proceeds donated to. Thapa was a standout.

“(Thapa’s) story really inspires me,” says Veltri. “The theme of our calendar is ‘beyond boundaries.’ And that was because of Pramod, because of his willingness and desire to push his body beyond limitations of what other people thought possible.”

Thapa, who lives with cerebral palsy, is part of the Sun Peaks Alpine Club racing team and has been competing in ski racing for a number of years.

“Pramod’s dream is to go to the Paralympics in 2014, but (he) doesn’t have access to the funding that’s required by athletes to achieve (his) goal,” says Jim Knowles, para coach at the Sun Peaks Alpine Club.

“He’d like to inspire other kids living with disabilities to challenge the perceived limitations of their bodies and push towards reaching a dream they never thought possible,” Knowles continues.

The proceeds of the calendar will be put towards Thapa’s training, equipment, attending more races and preparing for a position at the Paralympics.

Veltri hinted that this year’s calendar will not only feature Thapa, but local women, and a cheeky photo of a woman sparring with her husband.

Calendars will be available in the first week of December for $20. They’ll be available from Veltri directly, Jardines Sun Peaks, the Hearthstone Lodge and at select businesses in Kamloops.

The Kix for Chix Calendar is released yearly and features local men and women and the proceeds are donated to a local charity. The proceeds from last year’s calendar went to Kamloops non profit society, Ask Wellness Centre.
