On Nov. 25, 2010 at approximately 5 p.m. while investigating a complaint of uttering threats, two uniformed members of the Kamloops R.C.M.P. Rural Detachment attended a residence in Burfield Heights at Sun Peaks Resort. After locating and arresting the 33-year-old male for uttering threats, the suspect produced and pointed a firearm at the two R.C.M.P. members. Police subsequently discharged their firearm striking the male who was later transported to Royal Inland Hospital. His injuries are believed to be non life threatening.
The initial investigation revealed that independent witnesses observed the interaction between the police officers and the suspect.
Police located and seized a loaded handgun at the scene.
Senior management of the R.C.M.P. have secured the services of Lethbridge Regional Police Service to conduct an independent investigation into this shooting.
The Kamloops R.C.M.P. detachment will not be making any further comments regarding this shooting.
