Matthew Good show brings must-see singers to Sun Peaks

 | August 27, 2012

Wouldn’t it be great if Sun Peaks got on the charts as an awesome destination for live music?

Sun Peaks first summer of big name musical acts couldn’t have happened without the Resort Municipality Initiative (RMI) windfall of $470,000. This money gave Tourism Sun Peaks (TSP) the flexibility to go ahead with contracting big shows, and allowed them to offer the shows gratis.

With the funds, the Kevin Costner concert was a hit, and event planners hope the Matthew Good free show at 6 p.m. on September 1 will bring as many fans to the community.

Also on the lineup for the concert are three West Coast musicians, Vince Vaccaro at 1 p.m., Wil at 3 p.m., and Stef Lang at 4:30 p.m.

Vaccaro, self-described as a gypsy soul, brings an honest folk-rock sound to the stage. Based out of Victoria, B.C. Vaccaro’s recorded with Neil Osborne of 54-40.

Next on the roster is Wil who’s toured with Colin James, Joel Plaskett and Matthew Good, to name a few. His music, described as roots-rock, has earned him four West Coast Music Awards (WCMA) nominations and he recently composed the song “Ride” for the 100th anniversary of the Calgary Stampede.

Pop music rising star, Stef Lang, rounds out the free concert’s opening acts. Her edgy pop songs are attracting lots of attention, including nominations at the WCMA and Canadian Radio Music Awards, and featured songs on TV shows Degrassi and Rookie Blue. Her contagious energy is sure to get her audience up and dancing.
