After a 20 year career in the retail sector, 5Forty Café and Grill owner Scott Janzen is moving onto a new chapter in his life.
Offloading the retail side of his store, Janzen has spent the past several weeks refurbishing the interior of 5Forty, creating extra seating, upgrading his kitchen, and installing a bar, just in time to open for the busy winter season.
The coffees, wraps, subs and burgers 5Forty is known for will be sticking around, but a recently acquired liquor licence means Janzen can now serve alcohol.
Janzen said he hopes to create “a popular local hangout,” in the top-end of the village — a place for locals and visitors to stop by for aprés, dinner, or a few drinks after a day on the hill.
“What I’m hoping for is it turns out like the Stube use to be,” Janzen said, referencing a popular Sun Peaks establishment from the 90s. “A nice little hole in the wall. A place to hang out.”
As well as traditional bar drinks, Janzen is also excited to provide specialty liqueur coffees — ideal after (or before) a cold day out on the mountain.
5Forty has also undergone a significant kitchen upgrade, with Janzen updating the menu to include aprés including dry ribs, wings, salads and desserts. “Everything’s going to be baked, nothing’s deep fried,” he said.
5Forty Café and Grill is open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
