Muni hosts photo competition for National Health and Fitness Day

Gift cards and gym passes up for grabs

Get outside this week and snap a picture to share with SPMRM. File photo

Each June, for the National Health and Fitness Day (NHFD) initiative, Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality (SPMRM) and Sun Peaks Resort LLP (SPR) support being active with free golf and tennis lessons for kids.

The objective of NHFD is to inspire Canadians to become fitter and more active which will result in reduced health care costs attributed to preventable diseases related to inactivity.

With the COVID-19 pandemic changing how people can get active, this year’s NHFD will become virtual.

SPMRM is hosting a photo challenge and contest to encourage residents to get active outside with socially distant physical activities instead of group sports and activities.

To enter the challenge, post a photo of yourself taking part in the many options for safe physical activity in Sun Peaks, such as biking, hiking, or outdoor yoga, on SPMRM’s Facebook Page or on Instagram using the hashtag #NHFD2020SunPeaks. Eight lucky winners will be randomly chosen to receive either a $25 SPR gift card or a one week pass to Sun Peaks Alpine Fitness, the gym opening in the Sun Peaks Centre.

“On Saturday, June 6th make sure to get outside and do something,” said Nancy Greene Raine, former Olympic champion and member of the National Health and Fitness Foundation. “Jump on your bike, grab your tennis racket, or just go for a run or a nice long walk. We are lucky to live in a place where physical activity is part of our daily lives, even during COVID time. We have the space outside, let’s all enjoy it.”
