After accessing funding totaling $555,000, the Sun Peaks municipality hopes to build an NHL sized ice skating rink, including an ice making plant, hockey boards, concrete surface and basic services.
The municipality is in the process of purchasing five hectares of land east of the proposed east village to put the rink. Rob Bremner, chief administrative officer of the municipality, confirmed that the council had met with consultants and architects about the site.
The municipality has also flagged a park at this site which could include a softball and soccer field, running trail and other recreational facilities such as a skate park. However, funding has not yet been obtained for the park.
