North and South Thompson Rivers flood advisory

A flood advisory has been issued by the B.C. River Forecast Centre for the North and South Thompson Rivers.

The B.C. River Forecast Centre advises that both rivers are expected to rise a minimum of two feet over the next few days. As a result, low-lying properties are advised to take necessary precautions.

Sand and bags are currently being delivered to River Street, 3700 block of Overlander Drive, 7200 Furrer Road and Heffley Creek Trailer Park. Sandbags are also available at the Public Works Centre at 955 Concordia Way, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Residents are also advised that effective in the morning of Wednesday, June 20, all local boat launches will be closed until further notice. In light of high river levels, the City of Kamloops is requesting that watercraft users stay off the river due to the potential erosion of sensitive berms and dikes.

The City of Kamloops will continue to inspect dikes and seal off catch basins and manholes in low-lying areas.

The Seniors Outreach Society Snow Angels team has offered to assist seniors and those with mobility challenges with sandbagging efforts. For those requiring this assistance, please contact 250-828-0600.

To request sandbags or more information, please call Public Works at 250-828-3461.
