Put down that cinnamon bun, March was Nutrition Month and that means there’s no time like the present to start thinking about making healthier food choices.
Health Canada is providing tools and tips so that Canadians can make better health choices at home, the grocery store and when eating out. They can be found at healthycanadians.gc.ca/eatwell.
The website contains cooking and meal planning tips, a nutrition facts table, Canada’s Food Guide and sodium information.
According to Health Canada, healthy eating means choosing the right types and portion sizes of food for your age, sex, activity level and health. Healthy eating can be achieved in just three steps: eating the right types and amount of food according to Canada’s Food Guide, reading nutrition facts tables to make healthier choices, and limiting foods and drinks that are high in calories, fat, sugar and sodium.
