Perfect conditions for Kookaburra Loppet

Kookaburra LoppetThe annual Kookaburra Loppet was held under “perfect conditions” on Sunday, January 11, according to Sun Peaks Nordic Club coach Christopher Nicolson.

Nicolson said the event attracted around 80 competitors from as far as 100 Mile House, Williams Lake, Clearwater, Vernon, Salmon Arm and Kamloops for the 2 kilometre, 5 km, 15 km, and 30 km courses.

“We couldn’t have asked for better conditions for a Nordic race. The snow conditions were very, very good and it made for a fast race.”

Nicolson said feedback from organizers and competitors was positive, and said there was a great turnout to the race and to the awards ceremony.

“From a Nordic club perspective, the event is great for getting new people involved in cross-country skiing.”

Around $4,000 worth of prizes were up for grabs, including new skis and poles.
